19. JAGGUBHAI

An old friendship renewed, Sarath Kumar is back with K.S. Ravikumar. The duo certainly ranks right up there when it comes to successful actor-director pairs. Their films have always attracted both the classes and the masses, Jaggubhai will be no different too. The title reminds us of the dropped Rajni movie but we are not sure whether this is the same plot or otherwise. Shriya is also a part of the movie which should be a regular entertainer in KSR’s signature racy style.

Expectations get from Cineglits box office

15. SULTAN

This might be the movie that finally announces the arrival of animation cinema in Kollywood, though there have been a couple of largely unsuccessful attempts before. It has the best face value that one can ask for in animation, Superstar and it is being produced by one of the brave new production houses of Tamil cinema, Ochre Studios. The budget is huge by animation standards – 60 crores which can set the butterflies aflutter in many a producers’ heart. Let’s see to what extent this experiment succeeds.

14. NANDHALALA

It is not often that such themes are attempted, it takes a lot of courage to do things as offbeat as this and Mysskin is one man who is not short of courage. A story of a boy and a mentally retarded man who are in search of a mother, should touch chords deep in our heart. Mysskin’s acting debut has been touted as sure shot award material and Ilayaraja’s touching score is a class apart. It should be in theaters soon.

12. PAYYA

Lingusamy had to wait a long while to get Karthi for this one, that was due to the delays that Aayirathil Oruvan had to go through. But he waited patiently which tells us a lot about the faith that the director had in the young actor’s abilities. This will be the first time that we see Karthi in a youthful urban kind of role and with Tamanna for company it will be a pleasure to watch.

11. GOA

The leader of Kollywood’s young brigade of directors ushering in change is back with another subject that is not often treaded upon by film makers in India. He wanted to pull off a casting coup with Jessica Alba featuring in the scheme of things but that did not work out, never mind. The regular Venkat Prabhu team is in place, Yuvan’s there too and it is perhaps going to be Ochre Studio’s first non-animated venture. Looks good to repeat the Chennai 28, Saroja story.

09. IDHU MAALAI NERATHU MAYAKKAM

The Selvaraghavan-Dhanush combination has always been special for Tamil cinema and now with this brother duo announcing that they are getting together once again, the expectations have started building. That is the least that is expected when the team that gave us Kadhal Konden and Pudhupettai is back in business, one notable absentee from their usual allies will be Yuvan Shankar Raja whose place will be taken by the young G.V. Prakash. We have no clues about wht the movie will be about or when we can expect it to be ready, but it is definitely happening and we are all excited.

07. ASAL

No. 49 for Ultimate Star Ajith. Billa was great, but the one that followed (Aegan) was a complete let down. So, what does he do? Get back with old reliable friend Saran under the haloed banner of Sivaji Productions. Their combination has done it before and one can be sure that Saran will give his best for his friend. Also, Harris Jayaraj joins this team for the first time, we can expect some foot tapping numbers.

05. AAYIRATHIL ORUVAN

One of the most talked about films in recent times, mostly because it has been in the making for so long. Finally it is almost ready for theaters and Karthi can heave a sigh of relief; he at long last has a release after the phenomenal Paruthiveeran. Reema Sen too will be seen in a role of importance after quite some time and how can we forget that the man in charge of things is Selvaraghavan. High expectations from this flick which supposedly belongs to the fantasy genre, rare to Tamil cinema.

01. ASHOKAVANAM

Mani Ratnam coming back after a two year gap, teaming up for the first time with Vikram, an adaptation of the timeless Ramayana and an array of stars in the cast; you wouldn’t need more reasons to feel excited about a movie and we have not yet mentioned A.R. Rahman’s music. Also being made in Hindi as Raavan which will feature Aishwarya and Abhishek together once again in a Mani Ratnam film after the success of Guru.
